Loud-quiet grunge from the wreckage of 1993. Intimate until it screams.
Mercyboy works the loud-quiet territory of early-90s alt-rock: Big Muff fuzz walls at the chorus, clean arpeggios and breathy vocals in the verses, melodic overdriven bass, and drums that swing between hush and avalanche. The vocal is intimate to the point of discomfort, then it breaks into a scream.
The songs live where suburban Sunday afternoons meet borrowed religion, then move on to exhaustion, devotion, paranoia, and alienation. Impressionist and confessional rather than narrative. The self-titled debut album is currently in production.
